Default Where should I start?

Hey guys, I'm new here. I got a 01 silverado Z-71 5.3L automatic last year. We actually bought it wrecked for $600 and put $5,000 to get her looking pretty again. I wanna do away with the off-road suspension, it's not like i paid extra for it or anything, and make my truck a street truck. I'd like to make it a little bit faster so I can keep up with some of my friends. I have true-dual 40-series flowmasters and K&N cold air intake, that's it for performance. What would be the cheapest and best way to get some more power?
Thanks.

Headers, computer program, nitrous, and the list goes on.

Even if you take off the Off-Road stuff keep the 4wd.. You'll be happier with it for racing purposes....

You should give everyone an idea of your goals for the truck and a budget limit otherwise your repsonses will be filled with Turbos and Radix superchargers...

Do basics

Exhaust upgrades
Intake
Computer tune
Cam
Transmission work (stall, bullet proof trans, etc)
Brakes (why go fast if you can't stop?)
Better tires (you will need this I'm sure)
last but not least force induction (radix, turbo, nitrous, etc)

I mainly want my truck to sound good (exhaust and get it to lobe). Price wise, something around $1,000 or under, for right now. I'd like to get it into the 14's, without blowing several thousands. And I'm definately keeping the 4wd.
Thanks for the comments.

Some long tube headers, and a custome tune would keep you under 1000 and probably get you the most noticable power without goin with nitrous or FI
