Default where can i get a used or blown 5.3 vin b engine

so I have been tossing around the idea of picking up a used or blown 5.3 vin b engine, same one that is in my truck. I am taking a engine building class this fall and need an engine to build, so I thought what better than the same engine in my truck, that way I can swap it in when im done building it and have a fresh engine in my truck! I want to pick up the whole engine (longblock, heads, intake, everything) for cheap. so I was thinking it would be a good Idea for my to try to find one that lost compression or a ton of miles, since they would be cheaper. but where would I find one? or does anyone have one?

Gotta pay to play! I gave around $900 for mine IIRC.

Aluminum 5.3 Gen IV shortblocks are all over the place for ~$250.00, and all the "truck" engines had flat tops, as they all got the 243/799 heads. Source the heads for $3-400. Get the front, rear, valve covers, and oil pan. Don't forget a 24x reluctor wheel (since you're going to be building it yourself this should be easy to install). Then knock sensor extension harness, and cam sensor extension harness to wire into your Gen III wiring.

where can I find a shortblock that cheap? any used engine websites to look at? that would be nice too, that way I can freshen up the shortblock and build the rest how I want.

They come up from time to time on that big auction website we all know about, but who will remain nameless at this time....

I've got a blown L33 short block, but the knock sensors and cam sensor are in the same spot as my LS1. It's out of a 05 Z71.

I'm looking to get rid of it. Where are you located?.
