Shipping will definitely be expensive.. I just sold a set of 243's for $400 shipped and was shocked when UPS told me it would be $120 to ship them from Mass to Tennessee.

If you're on facebook, join LSx parts sell and trade. 243/799 heads are on there a lot for decent prices. You might get lucky and find someone like me who didn't realize how much shipping would be, lol

Just look into your neighboring southern provinces lol. You can buy a dead Gen 4 5.3 or 4.8 here with the heads you want on it for $100 or less.... lol. Kijiji could be your friend lol.

I thought the 317 heads were pretty much the same as the 253/799 heads just with a larger chamber.

they pretty much are, flow/hp numbers are usually real close to one another, I was just doing a cost/effort vs. reward comparison. After doing some digging for the cost of new 243 castings/ or having my 317's machined locally i think the best bet will be sending mine off to TSP. Local machine shop quoted me 1800 on the high side for bigger valves and a little clean up work/milling, new "243" castings were in the 500 range per head before shipping. TSP has complete "packages" in the 1700 range, plus they seem to do their homework.

Is the $1,800 without lube included?

For these redonkulous prices you'd have to pay I'd totally just shave the heads for cheap and slap them on the engine. Hand smooth them or something if you want. I guess I'm just cheap and wouldn't folk over that kind of cash.

Lol well I think he might spit on it first haha, there's a few, one backyard guy, another about 40 miles away. Haven't called them but I'm betting it wouldn't be much better, or I'll get what I pay for sorta thing haha. The local guy just opened up and brought in a bunch of new equipment so he has a ton of overhead, we'll see how long he stays open trying to charge those kinds of prices. Now I'm just torn between if I send mine to TSP should I spring for a full blown port/valve job since I'm already sending em all that way. My worry is since I'll be running a smaller cam 220r or smaller and not turning over 6k the port job would be pointless and may even hurt my low end grunt.
