When you get a tune, does the octane you choose dictate how much TM you can remove?

I was dead set on the 93 tune, but the more I think about it, the less I want to have to buy $2+ a gallon fuel. One reason I got this truck was for a daily driver, The truck runs good enough for me like it is, I would just like to have it shift harder and loose about 80% of the TM. What Im asking is this, Does octane have anything to do with how much TM you can remove? I know it retards timing, so I was concerned if more octane was needed once the comp did not remove timing in the higer RPMs. I talked to Nelsons a few weeks ago and did not have this as a concern, so I did not ask him. He did say that a little HP is to be had just from a 87 tune, but the 93 tune could net as much as 20hp. Im just trying to debate if its worth it for the 93 tune.

BTW, its a 04' 5.3 RCSB

What all did you have done along with the 87 tune? My main reason for the tune is to firm up the shifts, and remove the TM, or some of it anyhow. If the 93 tune is really worth it, ill go that route, but I hate to have to run 93 if im only gonna see a few ponies.

get a dual octane tune...I am thinking of doing that so I can run 87, or maybe 89, and then run 91 or 93 if I wanted more performance. I need to check if the stations I go to (Shell or who takes Shell card) have 91 or if it is 93.

I went with the tune from MTI and it was only $375. Since I have to run 93 anyway I think I got a great gain for the money. 23.6 RWHP and 22 ftlb of torque. To me it was worth it. They guy who was there before me got it done and he was bone stock he gained 18 RWHP.
