Default when did the LQ9s come out and in what?

looking for a LS1 core vehicle for a Fox Body swap, and I really like the aluminum head 6.0. What had them and starting when? Sometimes people bid up the wrecked Zs and TAs, but not necessarily the trucks at the salvage auctions.
Thanks!

Default 6.0

2001 is the first year for the alum headed version of the truck 6.0 engine, its the lq4 until the 02-03 years when they started a slightly higher output version -LQ9 using the same heads/camshaft but slightly different pistons that change the compression about 1/2 point higher, that and raising the max rpm to 5600 from 5200 had the power output moved from 300-345hp..(note max TQ only changes by 10-15lb throughout the range). Is there really any difference in these engines?? my guess is not much, very much subject to tuning etc.. and the later ones are only found in the more expensive trucks like caddy etc... GMPP is now listing the LQ9 in the 05 power book as the complete crate engine with fuel injection system etc.. and they rate that as the 345 version.. be carefull though there are alot of differences....

It was the complete crate that really got me interested...is the RPM rating because of the taller truck manifold? What are the reallldifferences in the LQ motors vs LS1/6, besides iron block. The 6.0 head is basically the LS6 head without the fancy valvetrain, no?
Anybody have pix of the accessory drive on the Truck motors also? Wondering how much I need to change for space-sake in teh Fox engine bay! I want to avoid a cowl hood.

The truck accy setup is NOT ideal for space constraints...the intake manifold is ~3" taller than the car manifold, and to swap to the car manifold requires either modifying the existing truck accy or switching over to all the car stuff. Not sure how the Fox swap works, but I know there's been some talk of it in the Hybrids section.

In the interest of keeping it light, why not build a forged 383, pick up some junkyard accy's and a FAST intake/TB, and slap that in there? I'm sure you could find stuff like the oil pan, front and rear covers, etc off of eBay or on the local boards.

Cuz I'm cheap! You know that! If you have anythying from eithe motor though, I'll take it off you hands!
As fas ar weight goes, a Fox with LS1 is WELL under 3k, so a 90lbs of iron won't matter!
Like I said, cheap is teh name of the game, and I can get a salvage truck for cheap and easier than a TA maybe, but then again, if the oldest with al heads is an 01...
Just weighing my options...
Hit me up locally or email about any local LS1 ****!
