Default Whats the story with

Shorty Headers?

I know, I know, LTs = more gains.

I don't want to deal with clearance issues, y pipe issues, gotta buy a catted y pipe...no thanks. I did all that on my f bodies.

Shorties. What should I look for?

Whats the best primary size for stock cubes, with a H/C setup?

Is there a set out there that scavenge better than the others?

Longtube headers on these trucks are different than dealing with them on the fbodys. No real clearance issues, you don't have to buy a catted Ypipe, etc... You do have to weld a flange on your stock Ypipe, but thats it. Most see 25-30 rwhp gains with decent longtubes. Shortys may be OK, but I've never seen anyone post significant gains from them. There are also some good midlength headers available, but it takes the same welding and effort to install.

Lets face it, if you are talking about a H/C setup, why waste your time on shortys? Its gonna take you a lot longer to swap heads and cam than it will to install headers.

Yeah you don't want shortys. Do a search and try to find someone that has gotten any decent gains with them. Go with some longtubes or midlengths (Pacesetters, Thorleys, Arizona Speed and Marine....).

for the what you will spend on a set of shorties, you can spend a few bucks more and have a set of longtubes..
I had a set of edlebrock shorties..
didnt get any gains from them..
went to long tubes, and gained .5 sec in the quarter mile
shorties are basically OEM replacements. they dont flow much better, but they do look better.

I didn't feel diddly when I had my Gibson shorties...just a lighter wallet They looked sorta cool to guys who didn't really know too much, but in the end that's all they were: decoration. After installing my StainlessWorks LT's and catted y-pipe, along with removing my tailpipes off the Gibson cat-back, I felt a difference. Wether it was the placebo effect or just more noise, I'm not sure, but I'm definitely happier now

I didn't have ANY fitment issues installing my Pacesetters at all. The hardest part was loosening the damn bolts on the stock y-pipe. Shorties are worthless and if you are going to get those, don't. instead, get long tubes or send the money off to your favorite charity. Either way, the money will be used in a much better way...

I felt a huge difference with the sw LT's especially after 3k rpm just kept wanting more and more.

ditto. Had them and went back to stock manifolds. No difference. Oh, yea, my wallet was lighter too. They looked cool though.

I'm sure i get some help from my shorty's but I wish I had long tubes. Go with the LT's and you'll be much happier, for sure!
