What's With The Cold Trans. Program?
#1
This has GOT to be one of the silliest things I have ever seen! You warm weather guys may not ever experience this, but for you cold weather people what do you think of this?
I think its absolutely absurd to have the trans sit there in 2nd gear and just wind out when cold. Literally can sit there at 32 mph for 3 blocks and not have the thing shift at all.
Add another reason to my ever popular list of why I hate comp. controlled automatic transmissions.

I have the same problem with my TA in really cold weather. Sometimes when driving around 20mph the converter screws up(like driving a stick at 20mph in 3rd gear). Usually after a couple of drive cycles it fixes itself.

This isn't an error though (at least not on the trucks). It states in the owners manual about a cold weather feature for automatics that holds the gears a little longer to get to operating temp quicker. When I read it I figured, cool, a slightly longer shift pattern....I had no idea it was going to be this ridiculous though.

I have had it happen a few times also way down here in Houston.
When it tries to hold in a gear I lightly tap the gas a few times and let off and it normally shifts into the next gear after that. But I will agree that it is a pain in the butt.
Maybe they should invest some money in a stronger trans than spending all their money doing their best to make a glass trans stronger...
Just a thought.....

Amen brother! <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
I compared normal operation vs. cold start operation today.
Normal operation 2-3 shift is around 20-22mph with moderate throttle.
Cold start 2-3 shift with same throttle is at 32-34 mph.
I drove for 1/2 mile today at 28 mph with the trans holding 2nd gear the whole time. I'll have to try your method.
