What year motors can I use?
I'm going to start looking for a motor soon and need to know what years to look for. I'll list the motors in the order that I'd like to get...
These need to fit a 5spd manual trans.... Going into a 1999 (originally a 4.3/5spd/truck) Would like to stay cable throttle also.
Most wanted....
6.0L - I think I saw somewhere that to use a manual trans in these it had to be a 02-04 and use a 4.8 flywheel?
5.7/LS1 - What year Camaro/Firebird/TA or Vette would I need
5.3 - What year Silverado/Sierra/Tahoe/Suburban etc?
I'm assuming 99 -04? to stay cable throttle?
Thanks..... Mike

5.3
I'm doing the same thing and i'm going 06' for the engine year and down so i don't have to do that DOD delete.
You will need a wiring harness for 99-02 V8
and a intake manifold that is still Drive by cable not drive by wire
you will also need V8 motor mounts from a 99-02
And ummm as far as the computer goes you just need to get yours Flashed over to the v8 i doubt you're ever going back to the v6 lol if you could get the computer though that would be great but you don't need it so don't trip.
As far as year and out of what truck is up too you, just find one with the least miles, make sure its a lm7
8th digit on the vin is a T, this is how you will also tell if its a 5.3 if the motor is already out ( Junk yard ) a junk yard wanted to sell me a 5.3 but it was really a 4.8 because of the vin, they checked it and said oops sorry we labeled it wrong
-_-
If you wanna do a ls1 swap i would just rather go 6.0, stay with truck motors.
Ls1's are retarded expensive, well at least where im from

Thanks Kr1s, I know there was a certain year that I had to stop at. For some reason I was thinking 04.
Do you know when they went to DBW throttle? I just want to get a complete motor because of limited eexperiance with this stuff. I have people to help but I want it to go as smothly as possablso I don't take up the garage for too long.

i think 03' not to sure but thats what i read right now when i checked.
You could do drive by wire but its too much crap and idk i've always liked the way a cable feels.
Lol i have never done a engine swap in my life either, i just have been studying this site for like 2-3 months and feel like i know the basics to do it.
This is what i will be using hope it helps
