Default what is the weakest link inside the engine?

i am planing ahead a little here but the way things have been going it may not be all that long before i am ready to drop some more cash on my truck. i tend not to mess around alot with the little things so i think i might go strait for a heads and cam set up.

i need to do some research on what cam for a whipple motor, that will be another post but with i am wondering is, should i replace any parts in the engine while i am in there. with my set up i think a set of forged pistons would be a good idea, then what about the rods? what about the crank? see if i can drop the compresion a little. also if i was to order the stock bore pistons will they just drop in without machine work? if not then what is the max bore and how much more displacement would it give me if i went ahead and bored it?

i know i have a couple of tenths to work out with some fine tuning and a tranny to beef up but i am never happy for long, it is time to start planing my next mod.

i just did a little research, 60 over would be about 10 more cubic inches, at about 1.4hp/CI i would be looking at 14hp, i don't think it would be worth the trouble especialy if i can get a set of forged pistion that will just drop in. can you buy pistions that just drop in?

The rods and crank are plenty strong, easily handle 500+ rwhp. I'd replace the factory rod bolts with some ARP ones though, when they do fail its always the bolts.

Forged pistons, with a dish to lower CR, would be a good idea. I don't think anyone makes a "drop in" setup, but we are all used to buying custom ones anyways. Expect about $100 a slug.

Go ahead and replace your valvesprings also, they simply suck.

As far as cams, blower motors tend to like a little more exhaust duration. For a 6.0L motor, I'd go with something like a 224/230 on a 114.

I had always thought about going with the larger-chambered 5.7 heads to lower the compression? I dunno the size difference off hand or that it would even make a huge difference in CR, but it would help, right?

honestly, i would say our compression ratio is plenty low enough as it is. definatly not where i would start out.

i always new our rod bolts sucked *** but i didnt know that the rods we had were that strong just by replacing the rod bolts.. thats pretty sweet

the 6.0 is listed at a 9.2-1 ratio, seems like alot of turbo/blower cars run more like 7.5-8.5, i am more thinking about just beefing it up but if droping the ratio and adding boost makes more power safely than i would have to go for it while i was swaping out the pistons, i am not sure if there is any power to gain there or not, anyone know?

so forged pistions and rod bolts are about it huh? along with the heads and cam set up of course.
