Default What thermostat?

I just read on Vinci's website that running at too low of a temp. is actually bad for performance. http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...20PAGE%20.HTML It's all the way on the bottom.

I've always heard that the cooler the engine the better. That's why I got the 160* stat. He does bring up some very good points. I didn't notice any change in performance when I switched. I'm thinking of going back to stock. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
J.R.

the lsx based engine runs the best between 170-175 i believe. also with a 160 stat your truck isnt running at 160 its more along the lines of 180. get your tune set for the 160 stat and you will be ok. just my .02 though

There's definitely some good info there, and I agree with alot of it. But with proper tuning, I feel that keeping the engine between 175-180 can be beneficial for performance, and transmission life. It's definitely a delicate balance. My truck has always felt stronger before it reached full operating temp. I have an SLP 160* stat now, with my efans set to come on at 180* and off at 173*, so my average temp is around 175*, and my trans temp never seems to get near 200* with fairly aggressive driving. I also run an oil catch can that seems to help with the moisture in the oil also.
