I changed oil pans. This sensor was in the stock pan about 1/2 way down the deep part of the pan. Anyone know:

a) what sensor this is (looks like oil pan level? I has a 'float' but goes in horizontally... )
b) if I need it (the new pan is for an LS1 and has no provision for this sensor)
c) about where I should put it in this pan:

i think that is for oil level it lets you know if getting to low on oil. if you were to not use it you would see the add oil light or you could splice the two wires together.

Or you can set it to ''not report" the code and to show "no MIL" in the low oil level in the tune.

Yep -- I can add it easily. I'm just trying to figure out where -- too high and it's always on.

The new oil system is going to run about 8 qts. During operation, there will be some in the lines, the oil cooler, the big second filter, etc. The pan capacity is 7 quarts. Should I put the sensor at the 3 quart (from empty) line? I'm not sure how much will be circulating at any one time.

I'd probably go higher than that. I had my low oil warning come on once, and the oil level was barely touching the bottom of the dipstick. What I would probably do.....see how much oil your stock pan holds at the stock level of the sensor, and put it at roughly the same level in the new pan. Or try and measure to see where the bottom of the dipstick sits, and put it in a position to come on when the oil level drop to the bottom of the dipstick.
