what is this part behind fuel rail ?

Default what is this part behind fuel rail ?

it's mounted to rear of head & looks like some kind of blocking plate for fuel rail

yes it is a bracket specifically made to protect the fuel rail from breaking open during a collision. It is a cosmetic piece that can be removed if needed.

yup thats it, I decided not to put it back on when I put the 6.0 in.. Part of the weigh reduction process

since you have that circle around there, don't forget to hook that ground wire up on the install or you'll be posting a very common thread subject.

I read once that it's also used as a lifting point at the factory.

any idea why they didn't place one behind the passenger's side fuel rail?

The passenger side is alot farther from the firewall

I would guess that it was discovered in off set head on crash testing to be a safety problem with breaking the drivers side fuel rail, so they told GM they had to have something like that to prevent it for them to get the necessary safety rating.
