Default what oil viscocity?>

time for an oil change, and the weather's getting warmer... should i run higher the the 5w-30 gm reccomends? i know 10w-30 will work fine, but i've always been a fan of thicker oil, in my gen I smallblocks, but this gen III stuff is new to me.
