I put 87 octane which is regular here and I am gettin pinging.Does any one else experience pinging?

 

93 here and no pinging. Try 89 or 93.

 

i use 93 (cause of pred) and no pinging. i do drive my truck less now tho and use the 4 banger more. 35 to 40 buck fill ups hurt. thats future parts going down the drain. so i guess i can suffer some ya know

 

87 here and no pinging.
I used to use Arco 87 which has that MTBE...I got serious cold knock start. So just to experiment I switched to 76 (gas station...not octane) and used 87 there. No more pinging...????
Could it be that alcohol **** MTBE that was causing the pinging?
I still don't know.

 

i hear what to me sounds like valve train knock/pinging at cold start ups but i don't think it's knock/pinging that you are hearing. mine just taps taps taps then goes away. i could be wrong on what i am hearing. it only last a few seconds then fades away. I had some mechanic for gm say i had the queitest 5.3 he had ever heard. ????

 

More than likely it's the infamous piston slap.

In my Z71, I used 93, til the blower came off, then I went back to 87. Now I'm using 87 in the truck, but once the mods come that will change.

 

if this was for me, then what can i do about it? it only happens for a few secs then goes away. before 93 octane and pred it would clang bad when i would gun it. now i don't hear it. hmmm, interest has peaked now. if this is me of course. lol

 

87 and sometimes 89... i dont have pinging, well it seemed to go away when i installed the NGK's and MSD's...

 

93 and stuck with it. motor knocks if i go lower.

I use 89 and some pinging. After I installed SuperChips I didn't hear the pinging.
