Wouldn't it be more likely to leak oil around the bottom without that part? I would bet it has something to do with the header install since you take the tube out during installation. I've changed that header out twice - wonder if mine is rattling around down there

btw - does anyone know if the corvettes are built any better than this? not just dipstick tubes , but random missing bolts, rattles and pops etc?

 

I removed my passenger side header to do my stall, so I had to remove the dipstick obviously. That's definitely what that looks like. I think I'd just make sure it isn't leaking.

 

Oh, I just thought of something. Where is the O ring?

Yeah its the bottom of the oil dip stick tube. I know this as I changed my headers and broke that SOB in there and am now in the middle of pulling the pan to get it. You have to replace the whole tube ad thats what holds teh tube in the block. I wish that I had your luck.

 

.......and yet another 2 year old thread is reborn. I'm glad this has finally been confirmed and we can all rest now.

i agree, i had to replace my dip stick tube when i broke the first one off at the block....this piece looks just like the remaining piece that i pushed out of the block after dropping the oil pan to put the new dip stick in.

either way that sucks you found that piece in your oil pan... hope there is no damage
