Default what heads for 4.8

ok i've been reading and looking and searching. what heads should i go with on my stock 4.8l for when i turbo charge it? i don't want hella low compression. but i just want something that is going to flow very good. i figured i could get a set of 6.0 heads for cheaper than a p&p on my stockers and would probably flow better stock than p&p 4.8 heads. or maybe some ls1 heads. the turbo pushes alot of air (75 lbs/min) so i just want to make sure that the heads can get it all in there with out blocking to much of it if you know what i mean.

thanks for any help.

Just take your pick of the sponsors. Look into the Patriots, they probably have what you want. It also depends on your buget.

ls6 or 6.0(317) will both work well. I would perosnally jsut throw on the LS6 hheads stock. when more modifications come like a bigger motor then put on some serious heads for the turbo.

will that lower my compression too much though? i've been trying to find the head thread i found one but it doesn't say what the 4.8 cc is. where might i find a calculator for cc and compression ratio if all stays the same ie: head gasket deck height and so on just changing the heads what those heads would put my compression at. and how much i'd have to mill off of them to get the compression back up. i would like between 9.0 and 9.5:1.

Ive read that the combustion chambers are bigger than the piston bore, thus overlapping it. Not sure though,

I love everything I read about the AFR 205's. I wonder how they'd run on that motor w/76cc chambers.

Smaller port volume for when you're not in boost, but plenty of airflow for the 32X" motor when it under pressure... I think the larger ports out there 220+ would be doggy in the 4.8 when not under healthy pressure.

Would the static compression be TOO low with 76cc's? I'm not familiar with the 4.8/5.3 pistons or heads.

I'd peronally look into running a tigher head gasket .041"(?). If you get the squish (piston to head clearance) set nice and tight (forget specs right now), the motor will be less prone to detonation, which means you ran run more boost - even with the slightly more compression you'll get out of running that thinner gasket...

I'll check around for head specs too...

hmmmm.... this is giving me all kinds of ideas. i just so happen to have a stripped 6.0L block (kinda useless unless i wanna buy a pile of parts) and a set of stock 6.0L heads and one GIANT turbo off of a peterbuilt

thinking a custom fab sts like setup is in order

If you want to go the "cheap" route, a set of ls1 heads would be sufficient. The have bigger combustion chambers and valves then the 4.8/5.3 heads. Unless you are going to run a hell of alot of boost, I think 6.0 heads would be too big ( static compression would be WAY too low and you'd have NO bottom end power).IMO.
