Default what is this fitting?

doing some work under the truck last night... i noticed a cast piece above the oil filter, looked like maybe a place where you could run a remote filter if you wanted to, like a relocator type piece..

anyway, it had a hole in the top of it, but i didnt feel any type of plug in that hole, i think it was just an open hole..

should that open hole have had a plug or anything in it? i dont remember it being threaded, although i couldnt get my finger all the way in it...

The piece that bolts onto the side of the oil pan there? That's where a remote oil cooler goes on the HD trucks or vans. If you don't have the remote oil cooler, then they just put a blockoff plate on (like you and I have) and if you feel above it, it feels like a hole but it's really just plugged. If you wantd to add an oil cooler, you'd take that block off plate off add the oil cooler assy. It's thermostatically controlled so oil is only allowed out of the engine when it gets too hot. InchUp should have the info on one as he added it to his GMC Sonoma.

Thats where the Turbo gets its oil from also.. You drill and tap where you felt the opening. put a adapter in there and run a line... Vola..

i still have my 4.8 pan, but dont remember it having that piece on it.

guess i will have to pick up a block off or make one. not sure if oil is blowing out of it, or not?

i had a little oil on the bottom of the motor and trans pan, like it was coming from somewhere..

It's not actualy a block off, but a by pass. There is a cavity in the part that lets the oil flow from one port to the other.

As said above, there is no hole and nothing is wrong. Just bolt it on the new motor.
