ok, i pulled my motor out to put a cam and **** in it while i was working on my truck. So i tear it down and im going to go ahead and put new cam bearings in it and check everything else out. But my motor has just over 120,000 miles on it. Ran fine had good oil pressure and so on... is there anything i should look at or replace? I thought about just honing it out and replacing the rings and just get it all over with with new bearing and all. Just kinda curious what everyone thought?

no... i pulled it out because my truck is bagged, and now im bodydroping it. I built a new frame from the fire wall back, new trans mounts and all that good stuff... So while the motor is out i was just curious

 

What year truck and which engine? If its a NBS with an ls-x engine then most of that stuff won't need to be touched at 120k.

 

yeah its a 02 GMC with a 5.3 in it.

 

dont touch it and just throw a cam in it and youll be just dandy

 

well i already got the cam bearings so i put them in... but i guess ill just put it all back together now! thanks guys

 

one more question... will i need to put new locks and retainers in? when i put the 918s in?

 

I think the stock will work but i would ask someone more experienced. i have not seen anyone mention having to change them in any cam threads

 

no u shouldn't need to. I reused everything when I did my cam swap at ~80k in my 4.8. Unless ur burning oil its unneccesary.
