Default What can i use

I know a guy that's got a 02 LS1 5.7 out of a camaro laying around, he used too much juice and messed up lucky #7 in it. Just curious if there's anything on that car that i could put on/in my 4.8 for some extra go. I think he said he had everything but the heads but could still get the heads back. Let me know. OH yeah, what about the cam, it worth anything in my 4.8?

With the cam, you might lose some low end but gain in the high end.
Although I see you have a 5spd so that might not be as big as a problem to you as it is to the automatic guys.

You might pick up a little top end with the cam I think, but you're bottom end will go to ****. It's not worth the cam swap. Don't know if there's any parts you could really swap that would make much difference.

i had the ls1 heads and cam in my 4.8 it ran great bottom end may have went away a little but it was great top end if you ask me. if you want the compression to stay up i would shave the heads a little but i just used the thin head gaskets from fel pro becouse i was going to turbo the motor.

do the math you may be able to use the 5.7 crank and rods with your pistons and get you a 5.3 high compression. its been awhil can't remimber if the rods will be too long with the 4.8 pistons or not i wouldn't think so becouse the rods are longer on the 4.8 then the 5.3 and 5.7.

He could use the crank and rods and a set of stock 5.3 pistons and make a 5.3. The 4.8 rods are longer to make up for its shorter stroke. It would still drop his compression a little due to the dish piston with the 5.3. But better yet, Why can't you just rebuild the whole 5.7 short block and use it. The aluminum block would save some weight and have more cubes.

I would take the heads and have them cleaned up and slightly ported and polished. I wouldnt bother with that little cam, I would get on that would be better matched to the P & P'd heads. You could do what mjhoward said and make a 5.3 out of it. I think that if oyu do a search on this site you will find that some members have found that the intake will not help you at all. Hope this helps
