Default What cams do you s/c guys like??

Im not planning on doing this soon and I couldnt seem to get any consensus going from the search threads. So what cams do you supercharged guys like?? Does it make a difference if you have a roots or centrifugal?? Id like to have an idea since I see so many floating around on the For Sale forums. If I could pick one up for $250 or so there would be no reason to wait .

As I will now illustrate, I know nothing about cams. I know that is LSA is Lobe Seperation Angle, other than that Im lost.
I saw these after a quick search
234/228 576/578 114 LSA
220/224 532/536 114 LSA
Any more insight?? What about these??
Thanks

You want something with a forward or standard split. The 234/228 is what;s called a reverse split cam. The second one you have listed would be a nice one, but it's a little large.

The 220/224 would be a nice cam for your Tahoe. You would have to spin it on up there though, it would prolly to about 6700-6800 at least on a 5.3.

I like the secong choice better. How about a 220/224 with a higher lift?

So spinning up to 6700 is safe?? Or should I go with a lower LSA to bring it down to say 6200??? What would you guys recommend?? The only other stuff needed would be hardened pushrods (7.4??) and 918 springs?? What about retainers?? Thanks guys

Wow, revving over 6200 RPM's in a Tahoe especially to 6700 RPM's - sounds like a perfect recipe for killing your motor.

Mine is holding together spinning at 6500 just fine ... it being a Tahoe doesn't matter.

I would think 6800 would be good if you had the ARP rod bolts in there. Otherwise ... I wouldn't go any higher than 6500. I would go with a smaller cam all together if it were me though. 218/224 on a 114 would be my ideal choice.

Wouldn't weight be an issue? Doesn't a Tahoe weigh considerably more than a RCSB Silverado? I'm thinking your truck is 4200 lbs, whereas the Tahoe would have another half-ton (or more) on you. Don't know for sure though...just going on what some of the performance shops are cautioning me about - spinning up the motors in big trucks...

I'd do it if it were mine .... hows that? I've never heard one way or the other that the weight affects the motor like that. I would think it would be more dependant on the condition of the motor than anything.
