My buddy is looking at putting headers on his 04' ecsb 5.3 4x4. He's future mods will probably be a cam, stall, shiftkit, servo and hptune. He wants to know what brand is good. He will probably go long tube. Any benefits with going with the long tubes? Will he lose low end torque with the long tubes?

 

he will gain tq down low and hp up top. AZM are the most prefered around here. You can also by thorley's which are mid length but cheaper. their are more just having a brain fart.

 

On contrary, he will gain low end with long tubes. Don't waste your money on shorties.

 

I would look into LaPoles, AS&M's, and TOG's.

I wouldn't opt. for the Thorleys. "you get what you pay for" is all i have to say about them.

seems to be the popular opinion that everyone who's had their thorleys has loved the bottom and mid range power

ASM's, TOG's, dynatech will give better results in high end power as well as significant gains down low

does anyone know of a dyno graph comparing thorleys to the other longtube brands? The price tag on the thorleys is just great

 

I have the AS&M Headers there a pain to install but worth in the end great results

 

i like my asm's as well. the passebger side was a pita but i do enjoy the benefits.

 

Any of the mid length to long tubes would be good. Thorley coated are around $500, Bassani, TOGs, AS&Ms are all more than $700. Dynatechs are $1300 or so with a new y-pipe and cats. Depends on what you want to spend.

I like the looks of the TOGs and LaPoles but can someone tell me what is the point of a mid-length when they cost the same as the long tubes and you still have to fabricate new flanges?
