Well, with a few things off my truck now, it's not as quick as it was. I do run a touch slower at Sears Point than I do at Sacramento, not sure why. Only got two runs in, IT WAS PACKED, I didn't stay for racing, I had things to do. I thought I would get more time trial runs in to check my truck, I was going to test the HPP on both tuning settings and a K&N air filter that I have. Well the first pass was 15.569 @ 87.93 mph with a 2.374 60 foot and an .636 RT. That was with 87 tuning from the HPP and a Purolator paper filter. For the second run I put in the 93 tuning and also the K&N filter, I wanted to do them one at a time but didn't have time. That pass was a 15.575 @ 88.16 with a 2.383 60 foot and a .583 RT. I did seem to spin a touch more which my have slowed me down some but as you can see, I was actually slower. Granted, there was no time for the computer to adjust for the new settings, so that my make a difference. There was about a 10 mph head wind and the temp was good, 55-65 degrees.

Sears is always slower than Sac if the weather is the same.

Did you ever run without the power programing at all?

Just curious because I just installed an HPP3 today and it made a pretty noticable difference in power.

I am wondering why there is so much difference between many of the quarter mile times I am hearing for 2000+ Chevy/GMC's. I am talking about trucks with the ext. cab, 3.73, locker, etc.

I have talked to one guy that has a 2003 GMC sierra just like mine and he ran a 15.6 stock. I would think that with your (Y2K) mods you should run faster than a stock 2003, unless I'm wrong. Are there differences between the 2000-2003 5.3L models?

Another example would be F8LPony's truck which is a Z71, with 4WD. Your truck ran a 15.38 with basically no mods and its at least 200-300lbs heavier than Y2K's. How does that happen? Is it because its a 2001? I remember hearing something about a 6.0L cam in the 2001+ 5.3L V8's. Could this be one reason for the faster times?

Anyway Im not talking smack or saying anyone is full of it. I just am trying to see what type of realistic quarter mile times to expect from my 03.

Thanks to all for any insight given.

F8LPONY! I never ran with out the HPP tuning at the track, I have done in my 0-60 stop watch runs though. The HPP makes about a .3 second difference, the trucks definitely quicker with the HPP tuning. I was really surprised that the truck wasn't any quicker with the 93 tuning vs 87 and a high flow filter. So much for K&N's claims!

MarineBlue03GMC! I've seen some quick times from stock 02 & 03 trucks. It started when the 02's came out, some guy actually ran a 15 flat in an 02 ext cab dead stock if I remember right. They did change the cam in the 00 from the 99's, that's why the 00 4.8L & 5.3L have high hp & tq numbers. I thought I've also read that the 02 got new cam but the factory hp & tq numbers didn't change. But the 02 & 03 trucks are definitly quicker, so the speculation is the they're closer to 300 hp on the 5.3L engines. My best at Searpoint was a 15.33 and at Sacramento it's a 14.92. That when I have pullies, a UPD intake and a GMS maf plus what's in my sig.. The pullies and UPD helped on the top end more than low end, the GMS helped all around. I pulled things off and sold them thinking I was going to sell my truck. That's been put on hold so I'm actually looking on E-bay to get a few things back. My truck now only has the HPP, Flowmaster 70 muffler and the stock intake with the ram-air mod. I may go to Sacramento in 2 weeks to see what I run up there before the end of the season.

I can't qualify my times 100% because as stated they were G-Tech times. BUT I did back those #'s up enough times for me to feel conficent in putting them up. I was also not 100% stock. I had a K&N, modified stock airbox and I removed the whole exhaust system from the Y-pipe back AND I manually shifted it. The shifting alone gave me about .4 or so which would be almost as good as me having an HPP3 without the power tuning installed.

If I just run and let the truck do everything I will run a 15.90-16.1 (depending on my launch) over and over and over.

So I am not sure which years are faster. I just feel mine is pretty quick for what it is but I think almost anyone can duplicate the times with the right shifting. I'll be heading to the track next week to get some REAL times with my HPP3 installed.

Y2K, Lemme know if you head on next Wed. maybe we can hook up.

Just for the hell of it I went out a sec ago and did some more G-Tech testing on my "drag strip" backroad and was pleased for the most part.

When the truck was not pinging on the bottom end I would run 15.23-15.34@94mph (isn't G-Tech MPH great ). I did this ohh, about 7 times.

If I started getting a lil detonation then I would seriously slow down to 15.55. I even went 16.02@88 once!

Not too bad for a FULL tank of gas and all the stereo equipment I have and the fact that my exhaust is back on. I'm sure the 39deg temp helped though.

I need to get my ATAP cable back and make some passes and see what is causing the stumbling in first gear before I can draw any real conclusions but I know for a fact the G-Tech has made me faster due to power and not just shift points. I really like this unit for it's simplicity.

The trucks seemed to get progressively faster without any major changes (at least those that GM owns up to) each year. I have 00', 01', 02' and soon 03' dynos with 100% stock equipment and between 2500-3500 miles on each. Every year teh HP peak is higher and the torque curve seems to shift around but seems to make the same peak number. Definately some OE tweaking going on.

Hey Y2K are you keeping the truck for a long time or just temporary? Either way it's good to see you back on the board testing products for us. Later dude.
