Warrantied Engine Swap??
#1
Guys heres some questions for you,
If you were a GM Tech at a Dealership how would this sound?
I have the 100k warranty. I have an 2001 with only 25k miles. I dont want to wait for 4 years til the warranty gives out. I want the 6.0L now.
What if I went to the Dealer and asked them to order the same motor (HO 6.0L) from a Escalade/Denali (brand new) and had them (the dealer) install it? Do you think they would keep the 100k warranty? Its not like I'm doing anything that the truck was not made for.
My only concern is that the 6.0 was not an option for my truck. Do you think I would have to get the 4L80E to go with the new motor?
Also, anyone know what the motor and tranny costs brand new? How about an estimate for motor, tranny, and install? I'm guessing it would be cheaper to find a used block and just switch over what I can from the 4.8, but I do not want to throw away the rest of the warranty right now.
Let me hear any refutations on why the dealer may not agree to this. Thanks <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

they will NEVER go for it. i see 2 options.
sell the warrenty, they will refund most of that money and put it toward a 6.0
or, just toss in a 6.0 and don't tell them, you wont be able to take it in for any engine work but i seriously doubt they would notice you had swaped it when you took in in for other work. the only diference externaly is the 6.0 is stamped 6.0 on the block but it is prety hard to see. it might be risky geting the tranny worked on since that exposes the rear of the block and they could see the 6.0 then.
is the warrenty worth keeping for the rest of the truck?

If you were to buy a new HO 6.0 from a dealer, be prepared to bend over. They would charge you an arm and a leg for that part new. You'd pay so much, the price for the extended warranty wouldn't matter anymore. Just buy one off the street somewhere, then never tell the dealer that you made the swap. Keep your 5.3 just in case you need to swap it back in. That way you'd get your tranny covered for the 100K or any other misc items. Also, if you sell it, you could get some money back out of the 6.0 at that time. If the tranny does need to be overhauled, buy new aftermarket parts, then have the dealer tech install them for you (you might have to slip hiom a little side $$$), but the major labor is covered under warranty.
