Vortech supercharged 5.3L

Which one would you guys buy? BTW I've seen many whipple s/c trucks but never seen a vortech supercharged 4.8 or 5.3L. Have any of you guys seen a Vortech s/c 4.8 or 5.3? How do they run???????

Roots type (Whipple) is an all around better blower. Boost is there at low RPM's versus centrifugal has to build boost. Most people go with the Radix, but there are alot of people with the Whipple! If it were me, Id go with a roots-type blower! I dont think Whipple offers an intercooler, Vortech does. I dont know of anyone off hand with a Vortech equipped GM truck.

I would have to disagree with the above.
A roots style blower is great for towing or those without much low end power. For those who have trouble with wheelspin a roots blower is a waste IMO. They tend to not make as much power in the higher RPMs as centrifugal and with tire spin you just waste all that good low end power the roots style have.
Couple that with a lack of intercooling and it spells trouble in areas with hot summers. Both the Vortech and ATI have intercooling options.
I guess it depends on what you want. I like centrifugal's because I've owned a few and you will ALWAYS have more power than you did stock, even at low RPMs but on the freeway they really rock.
Then again I come from the car world where too much low end power spells LOST RACES on the street.

There was an article in Hot Rod a while back where they compared a roots, centrifugal, and turbo. All three were running 9psi and no intercooler. The turbo made the most torque, the centrifugal made the most HP, and the roots was behind on both.
I dont remember which month it was, but it was cool to see the comparison.

Ohh, if you decide to go the centrifigul route then go ATI or Vortech. Stay away from Powerdyne.
For roots style I would do a search in here and see how many "pissed off at Whipple" posts you find before you commit to that one. I see alot of happy Magnacharger owners but they do run about $1.8k-$2k more than the Porcharger and Vortech units.

I blew up 3 Poerdynes on my Mustang back in 96 or so and from what I hear they have not really gotten much better for racing situations.
Back then they had kevlar belts instead of chain drvien gears and the belts would break or glaze up and slip really bad. Lots of Mustang guys HATED em. I swtiched out to a Vortech S-Trim and gained more power and never had 1 issues with it and I beat the hell out of that car. I even went through 3 pistons (1 at a time), then sold the whole car before I finished the new motor and the guy made 538rwhp on just 7lbs of boost on a 351W. Not bad blowers IMO.
We have a few people with Vortechs and Prochargers on their F-bodies and C5s and they work great. Most are seeing 430-500rwhp depending on tuning and wether they have exhaust or not (stock motor).

Ive thought about a vortech. In my opinion they are put together better than the procharger kit, but they are only $300-$400 cheaper and dont come with an intercooler and they have to use engine oil. I guess you could get a ALK or H2o kit for about $400, but that jacks up the install cost. Ive heard ALOT about procharger blowing off the intake tube and the location of the intake filter is horrible so most custom fab an intake position. Anyone else have opinions??? Ive decided to wait a while. Im set on a centrifugal and the only real choices are vortech and procharger.

Whats wrong with the Powerdyne anyway? Ive heard alot of people down it but Ive never heard why.
