Default vortec

Hi all,
Thanks for allowing me to joint your forum.
I have been trying to find where someone has purchased a 96-2000 5.7 vortec and put it in a older truck 88-95 while using their tbi. I don't has the cash to buy a new truck but I can spend a few grand on a new motor. Now I'm not looking for a street rod or to pull a house, I just want a little more power and better mileage. Has anyone done that here?
If so what all is needed to switch. Can I use all the current stuff that I have now? (distributer, tbi)

Thanks for your help.

Cause the complete engine would cost a great deal more, wouldn't it?
