Default VIN Number location on frame?

I just bought a totaled silverado chassis and can NOT find a VIN anywhere. Does anyone have an idea of where to look. I am trying to accurately determine the year of the truck as I am using it for a LS swap and need to know what year 5.3 I'm dealing with.

Thanks

Shouldn't where you purchased it have the salvage title or something.

Located on back half of the frame on the drivers side near the rear tire...

I would check the vin, if its non-repairable go get your money back. Or half back it and get rid of the vin completely...
