Default Valve Spring Height and Spring Pressure

Just wondering, how many of you guys just swapped out the springs when you changed cams, and how many checked the valve spring installed height and seat pressure?? I'm getting different answers from different people. I would think you would want someone to set the heads/springs up on a cam install, but I bet a bunch of people are just throwing them on without shimming or even checking. Anybody wanna fess up???

most people do just throw them in there. i feel it is nothing to realy worrie about unless you are running a big cam or power adder. mine were settup by gtp but too tight. i checked them when installing the new ones and when i change these i will loosin them up a bit.

I'm running the 212/218 558/563 high lift comp cam with the 918 valve springs. I guess I better get someone to set the heads up. SleeperSilverado, how did you know they were "too tight"? Were they excessively noisy? Anybody else got any input?

well normaly the spring height is set up 1.800-1.700 usualy. but they will set them up tighter when running boost to have more seat pressure. i cant remember what mine were set at but believe it was around 1.640. i say they were too tight because i broke 8 valve springs because the springs were not rated for that. when i redo it i will aim for like 1.690-1.680 maybe a little more. i did record all the spring heights for later refrence though. hope this helps this is the way i understand it and what i have learned from all my headaches.
