Default v6 to v8 swap question

im lookin to doing a v6 to v8 swap in my '02 silverado in the next few weeks. hopefully going to get a motor next week. i know i need motor mounts, hoses, belts, harness, redo the exhaust, and program pc. is there anything else im forgeting or need to do?

while i in the process of doing the swap im gonna throw in a cam. (ls6 cam, tr220, tr224) i know i need hardened push. Valve springs? could i get away with using ls6 springs? lifters? and should i get a stall? bc im still planning on pulling at least 6000lb trailers

also haven't decided but if i could get ahold of wheatley i was gonna have him do my tune. if not im goin to ard.

thanks,
Dennis

i just had my swap completed, 4.3 v6 to 6.0l with a tr224, bolt-ons, headers, 3200 stall and 3.73s in a g80.

you will also need a different a/c compressor, a/c lines, a/c dryer, fuel lines, air intake tube, bigger injectors (like regular 8.1). if you want to still tow 6000 lbs, i would probably go with a ls6 cam and springs, not necessarily a stall but if so, a small stall like 2600-2800 would be nice. my 2 cents. good luck, rob (956) 802-7700.

Do not use the LS6 cam for towing. I have it, and its a higher RPM gain then lower. Get a cam that will produce low end torque, and better low end power. Daily driving i know how the cam acts. It really kicks in at 4k IMO.

Get a tranny cooler in there while everything else is out.

dam i happened to find a ls6 cam at a good price the other day and i jumped on it. o well the v6 pulled the trailer 4000lb car fine so it shouldnt be to bad.

i heard someone say something about a trailblazer convertor being a decent convertor for these trucks?

is that in the 4.8 listed in your sig cause he is considering a 6.0 and in the bigger cubed 6.0 it would be a very mild cam yet should be good for towing as he wants......

not usre to be honest as my mechanic did the swap. I also had to have the cruise control box and cable swapped in from a v8 as the v6 cable is shorter and was not able to hook up. In addition, i had to have the prdn123 neutral switch replaced as after the swap, the position on the cluster would change by itself while the tranny remained in the same gear. It is a hassle to go from a v6 to v8 but after all the troubles, i got a grin...:d

The fuel lines lined up perfect, my v6 was returnless so i just used a retunless rail on the the 4.8.
