I asked what all was included and where it came from and this is his response.
Does this sound like something good to work up a 383 from or could there be issues with the engine block? $350?
Thanks, Bill.

Porbably the most inportant thing is the cylinder walls. Take a flash light to them and make sure they are not scored. If they are, you would have to have them sleeved which is a lot of money. Not sure if it would be worth it. I think if you were to go with a 383, you go with new pistons and rods, so I would not be as worried about those.

So if they are not gouged it's cool? How deep if at all can a scratch be? up to .003" So like a fingernail should not be able to sop on it? I would have them honed anyway. and all new internals, of course.
Is $350 about right, cheap for a good ls1 block?

What year LS1? Early 98-00' you could only hone the cylinders about .002" because the cylinder sleeves were very thin. The later years had a little thicker sleeve that you could bore I believe .010"

That was my next question. Does year matter for a build or not? How can I identify a mfg year, any codes?
I just talked with him and he's going to pull the heads so I can see it Saturday.
$350 sounds like a deal, the heads alone are worth $200, right?
