I just bought a 2002 6.0L out of a wrecked 2500, I hopeing it is a LQ9 motor, they already had it removed from the truck, so how do I find out it is a LQ9? anway, I am having the block bored and made into 408 C.I. so I don't think it will matter if it is a LQ4 or an LQ9, The blocks are the same, the diff in HP, they are getting out of the tunning and the way the heads are set up

I don't think it's a LQ9 if it came out of that truck... I think the only way to tell would be to check the glove-box codes.

But yeah, if you're putting in a new rotating assembly, it won't make any difference.

2500 = LQ4. Not much difference between LQ4 and LQ9.

my 6.0 is rated 300hp, 360 ftlbs. there's speculation that the truck LQ4 is ether detuned or underrated.

The LQ9 has more compression. It has different pistons.

Exactly. The intake is the same as are the heads. It's a compression and most likely something in the PCM that makes for the extra power.

I didn't want to get a 6.0L when I bought my truck because I believed the specs form GM and it seems like a waste. I was wrong. With the same mods on a 6.0L as I have on my 5.3L I would have been solid into the 13s N/A. My buddies truck weighs 500lbs more than mine and he smokes me on a daily basis with similar mods. I just can't compete with the extra cubes.

So how much hp and torque will a tune add? Also is the tune one of those programmer things? What other mods will make the motor come alive. Also this is going to be in a 3/4 ton truck. So i dont need fast just more power.

I'd look at www.nelsonperformance.com
I'm not positive but I think they're seeing from 35-50 extra hp with the tune on a 6.0, depending on how aggressive it is. Its a whole new pcm (computer) and he'll send you a tuned one and you pop it in then send your stock one back to him
