Default Tuning or Tranny?

When I drive at a regular pace...maybe shiftin at around 1800-2000 at each shift, my tranny takes a little while to shift. At WOT it seems like it falls on its face. I was wonderin if this could be the fact my tranny has over 100,000 miles on it or could it just be tuning?

In a quick answer, probably Torque Management causing the WOT face plant.

Not necessarily torque management. I have torque management totally removed, as far as i know, and mine still falls on it's face sometimes. I get lots of KR, up to 7deg. Probably burst knock.

Mine too... I have no TM at all, and my higher RPM 1-2 shift sliiiiiiiiiides in. As soon as I get my tuning cable back this friday, I'll be putting TM back in gradually to see if I'm 'overpowering' the clutch or holding pressure or whatever.

This apparently is not an uncommon problem. I spent a couple of hours with Allen Nelson street tuning my truck to address this very issue. We fixed my wot 2-3 shift problems, but the wot 1-2 was much more difficult. Sometimes it shifts fine and sometimes it feels like it is "sliding slowly" into second. This is much better than before when it would completely fall on its face before the shifts. I don't think it is hurting performance very much, but it is annoying. Allen's belief is that there may be some tables that HP tuners is not showing for the '04s. I agree. There is something going on, that we are not able to see. He is looking into it and may come up with a fix soon. I'm pretty sure I'll be installing a shift kit within the next couple of months and this should cure the problem.

Awesome info, thanks.

Yeah, I've got a TransGo and vette servo waiting to go in. If I have time this weekend, I'll put the servo in. I've been stalling, waiting until I have the tuner working again.

I have no tune or shift kit..its all stock except for exhaust which should have no effect. Im thinkin its the tune cause sometimes its smoother and other times its not.

Could having a bigger tire affect it at all?

My stocks were 255/70/16 which are about 30 in tall and now I have 285/50/20 which is about 31 inches tall. Oh and my gears are 3:73s
