Tuning and gear question
#1
Is there anything else to tune, besides adjusting the speedo for the new gear ratio, after a gear installation? I'm asking only because I'm going to get dyno tuned this weekend and I'm getting 4.10 gears next weekend. I know some of you are probably thinking why not wait til after the gear install. Well, I literally can't wait til then due to some issues here at work, for lack of a better/thorough explanation. Thanks.

keep your speeds below 100 so you don't blow your driveshaft like 3 of us have when we went to 4.10s, we all ended up getting Heavy Duy Aluminum Driveshafts from dennysdriveshaft.com. Mine works great now, and I don't have to worry about the speed or rpms anymore.

Hey hodgee, can you give me a little more info on that driveshaft. I've been without a truck for almost 8 months trying to finish up this project so I really doubt that I'll ever be doing under 100 to make up for lost times
jdpanero-I got the gears and eaton posi unit for just under $600. FLP, a sponsor here, is doing the install for $260.

Check out Denny'sDriveshaft. It will cost about $500 shipped to your door, but it will be able to handle up to about 600 hp, and will able to spin up to about 7000rpms without detonating. After I got rid of my speed limiter, and switched to 4.10 gears, in third gear next to redline, you have all ready exceeded the maximum speed of the driveshaft. The driveshaft is designed to blow up after exceeding a certain rpm, ripping in half to allow it to blow from the vehicle, causing as little damage as possible. But if you are building yours, and running taller gearing, you will probably exceed the 5400rpm capability of the driveshaft. Now I know you can go over that, but how much and how many times remains a question, and do you want to take a chance in causing very expensive damage to the vehicle. Mine blew at about 120 at 5800rpms, downshifting into 3rd from 4th. 3 other poeple blew their driveshaft also.
I know I needed a heavier duty driveshaft when I was upgrading my truck, but did not expect to need it so soon. Just check out their website.
