Default True Duals?

I hear alot of people on the site recommending that the best exhaust system for anyone to get for our trucks is true duals with an X-pipe. So I went to a local muffler shop and he told me that there is no way anyone would do that because of the cats.
I was wondering if those who had it done went under the table with it and had a hookup at a muffler shop or did anyone leave the cats on before the X-pipe? Also, are the gains that much more noticable than just a single inlet dual outlet muffler (common) exhaust setup?

they should be able to run individual piping from each cat back to the rear, that's how mine came from the factory.

When I had true dual exhaust on my '97, I just put 2 high flow cats before the x-pipe. I had 1 muffler shop tell me the same thing they told you. All you have to do is find a good muffler shop that is used to doing custom installs.

You need to find another muffler shop. I'm running true duals and x-pipe with the stock cats in place.

All you have to do is cut off the rear section of the y-pipe behind the rear 02's. Have the x-pipe installed and the rest of the exhaust run from there. Maybe they just dont want to do any custom work. Messing with the cats or 02's isnt nessessary to do this.
Did they put the truck on a lift to see how the factory exhaust is run? If so, then they should have been able to see how easy it is to do.

I dont have a x pipe just a crossover pipe on my custom duels, A 5.3 with jba headers a cross pipe and true duels out to both sides out back, never had a problem with ses . Its really a nice muted sound with the cross over and its suppossed to function much like a x pipe .I get over19 mpg and the whipple makes over 400 hp. not to much compromise.
