I was looking thru the 2002 service manuals and there is as much info for ETC as there is for cable throttle control in the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 engine section. I was just wondering what determines which type of throttle you get on your truck? Is the ETC setup just for bigger medium duty trucks, or do some of the "normal" everyday setups come with it??
Just trying to figure out what's what!
Thanks for any info.

ETC comes on Trucks with Traction control.
Its not the ETC that isn't good for racing...its the traction control. I am not sure if its a standard part or not on the Denali's and so on but I know it comes on those also.

As far as I know only the trucks with traction control have it-that is how that is how the traction control works-by limiting the amount of throttle. The c3 also has it- has something to do with their AWD.

Can't speak for the 4800, 5300, and 6000, but my 8100 has ETC and I don't have traction control.
I do think that by '02 though, they had all been converted to ETC.

Doesn't that constitute the majority of trucks on the road? Most people buy them fully loaded which would include traction control.

I thought only the Chevy LT's and GMC's top trim package had the ETC option. Most of the trucks I see, even 02's do not have it.

I went to two truck dealerships the other day and looked at a total of around 30 trucks (both were Chevy dealerships). Out of the 30 I looked at, only 3 had the option called "traction assist".
All were 5.3, 2WD, auto transmission, 1500 series.
One was an Avalanche and the traction assist was listed in a larger option package called "premium on-road suspension".
The other 2 were 1500 LS models, and the traction assist was listed as a separate option.
I couldn't pop the hood to confirm the ETC, but you guys have convinced me that the ETC and traction assist go together on the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 series of engines. On the 8.1 big block, I'm 99% certain that they are all ETC, and were from the very beginning.
