Truck not running right, need help!!
#1
This morning I start my truck and it is sputtering and spouting and then revs up to about 4000rpm's. I then shut it off. I start it again and same thing happens. I then disconnect the battery and reconnect it to see if that helps, same thing happens. I noticed that the truck is running rich when it does that. I then disconnect the MAF (I don't know
why) and the engine starts and revs high, but doesn't sputter during the 2 seconds of initial startup. It just starts and revs high. I plug the MAF back in and the sputtering comes back during the first two seconds of running and then revs high. I then start it up again and see how high it will rev, well it stops around 4000rpm's and then cuts back and the goes up to 4000rpms and then cuts back, it keeps doing this like I'm revving it up to 4000rpms then letting it come down to 3500rpm's, then back up. The only thing I did since the last time I turned it off and this morning was remove the 4" round, plunger type thing from the passenger side trans to remove a couple of shims. Actually, I never really removed it, I got the snap ring out and then couldn't pull it out by hand, so I just put it back together. (my tranny is shifting too hard). I don't think that had anything to do with it.
thanks in advance

See if the TB is stuck open. If it isn't then check the cruise control assembly. That is all I can help. Sorry. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

i found out what was wrong. i don't have an egr setup since it's all custom and i pluged the hole in the side of the intake, right behind the TB, with a plug. the truck must have did a small backfire when i didn't start the first time. so, i had a huge vaccum leak.
thanks for the replies

sounds like it could be a MAF sensor problem.
i had a similar experience, but my truck completely died after reaching 500 rpm.
i had to buy a new one because oil from the k&n filter blew it.
