Default Transmission Problem

I notice when I start off in 2nd gear from a stop my tranny starts in 2nd gear.It does not shift down in to 1st gear.Is this normal on this tranny or is there something wrong?All my other trucks before this one would start in 1st and change to 2nd.

As far as I know that is the way it is supposed to work. I have the same truck with a 5.3 and it has always worked that way. It is nice in the winter because it is easier to get started without spinning the wheels.

anybody know if this is bad for the transmission.i dont do it often but was just wondering. say if you did it at every intersection?
