Default Transmission prep help....

Ive gone through the list JamesB gave me to upgrade my tranny. Do I really need the Extreme Duty Drum and Input Shaft?? So far Ive got the 29 element sprag, Raybestos Kevlar band, front and rear 5 pinion planet, rebuild kit with clutches, and the Extreme Duty Reaction Carrier and Shell. I dont think I'll ever get over 400 rwhp, so will this be sufficient?? Anyone have any idea what install will run approximately??? Thanks alot

personally,no need for the E.D.drum/shaft,you might want a new reverse input drum, the band warps them from normal wear,if you bought a wide band then for sure you need this drum.I like vette servos ,billets are over kill and break things(personal opinion) 4th servo good if you tow. and a check valve for band release(goes into case)I will use the superior brand shift correction kit late model design. Not a huge fan of transgo.looks to me like you got what you need. the most important being the reactionshell and sprag.

If you run a Radix you need those parts, because a Radix makes power at lower revs, unlike a centrifical like a ProCharger that has to build boost at higher revs.To put it in simple terms the Radix makes power like a 500 cid engine, while a ProCharger has a surge at 4000+ like a small displacement turbo. The Radix can outperform a centrifical type supercharger that makes more peak horsepower,by having more low and midrange(power under the curve)punch. The downside of the Radix is that especially with the boost turned up tends to break drivetrain parts.

Are you saying I dont need all of those parts?? What do you recommend?? I thought it would be better to do a little more now to be on the safe side, but like I said I doubt I'll ever even reach 400 rwhp.

I was saying if you go with a Radix and don't exceed 400hp,you probably still need the extra parts because of the low rpm boost.

Of all your trany breakage did you ever twist a input shaft or take out the splines at the drum?

My input shaft splines have been damaged before. It started to beat the splines to one side. I guess I had a freak Procharger, it made 509rwtq at 3200 with 11lbs.
If you can afford it, buy the best. If not, I don't think you will need the input shaft or drum with low power levels. The reaction shell is a must, even for stock power levels.
