Exclamation Transmission damaged?

Hey guys, Im back online thanks to Bigtex, but I have some bad news. About 3 weeks ago while I was at work, my truck was wrecked into in the parking lot. It was in park with the ebrake on and was struck in the back left, and rolled about 20 feet from where the other vehicle stopped There were no marks and witnesses say it was rolling and grinding. I was however able to put it in drive and move it out of the drive way. I had it towed just to be safe though. The insurance is saying it will be fine, but I am wondering what gave out inside there to let the wheels roll. I will be getting the truck back tomorrow and I need to know what I should have checked out if I have any problems. Thanks for the help guys and Im so glad to be back. Steve

I think the thing that gave way might have been the parking pawl. It has a tooth (or 2 teeth)that fits into a notched drum or something like that. When it engages that drum the tranny is in park.

Thanks everyone it's good to be back. So on this parking pawl, will the teeth flex under high stress or do they snap off and need to be replaced?

I think they flex, or at least jump out of position. a good way to check would to have your truck in ark without the parking brake off and rock the truck back and forth to see if the pawl keeps the truck from moving.

My dad had a rental blazer a while back, and as he told me never to do this, slammed it into park while we were doing ~10mph. There was a loud almost grinding noise as the pawl jumped in and out of position as the blazer came to a stop.
