Default Transmission With 140k And No Service.

My friend has a NBS 1999 ECSB 5.3 Auto with 140K miles. He took it in for service and one place told him not to do it. He said it would be a 50/50 chance somthing would go wrong if the fluid was changed after so long.
He drives the truck like going to church on sunday so it has not seen any abuse.
What say you , my lerned friends?

i just went and pulled a 2000 silverado motor and trans and i know that the guy didnt change it once....the fluid was almost black.

this could mean a few things, most likely its full of metal particles because the case magnet can only hold so much...i say change the damn fluid.

and btw how could you screw it up by putting new fluid in it? thats almost like saying don't change your engine oil you might screw something up...wtf.

It wont screw it up by putting new fluid in it. Get the filter changed too and try and get the case magnet cleaned so you have all the little metal shavings out.

I'd leave it alone until it breaks if you change the fluid a filter you might be opening a can of worms.....IMO

Not changing the atf is like saying ok well my engine is ok even though I havent changed the oil in 10,000 miles but its still running so its gotta be ok. Change the damn atf if you dont be ready to buy a new tranny.
