** Tips **

- Keep everything that you take out in the pan

- Follow the written instructions over the video. There were a few things that were different then the video when I put one in my '00 SS.

- Budget more time than they say in the video, alot more time <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> . That punk in the video has probably installed thousands of these things.

- The instructions showed one part(I believe it was a piston of some sort) going in upside down compared to when it was taken out. I put it in upside down like the instructions showed and everything turned out OK.

- Double check everything

- Be patient

It really wasn't too bad but, it was kinda scary since it was my first time digging inside an auto tranny.

John

PS - Make sure you don't overfill the tranny when you fill it up. The people driving behind you won't like the trans. fluid on there windshield. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Oh yeah, be very careful with those filters that are on the one plate you take out. The clips that hold them in snap very easily. I just didn't reinstall them since I broke'em. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I really can't believe that trans. lasted after I did that install. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I plan on measuring the amount of fluid that comes out to know the ballpark amount to put back in.

How many washers are you going to put in, 1,2,3? You will probably notice torque management a little more on your 1-2 shift. Kent

Make sure you have a ride to work in the morning if you are starting at 8:30pm! Installing a shift kit isn't a quick task. Be VERY careful on how everything comes out and more importantly how you put it back in. Probably about a 4hr job if all goes well. Are you gonna use a vette servo or rework the stock servo with the kit parts?

I'm just gonna rework the stock one. I figure the reworked one should be pretty close to the vette one. BTW, I'm off tomarrow, so I may just wait until the morning. Just incase I don't have something I need. Plus, I can always drive the Dodge now since I got the A/C working again.

The instructional video was for a 4L60-E in an Impala SS. Since these cars were last made in '96 a few changes have been made inside the tranny and valve body. Most of the pistons in my tranny were plastic instead of metal as shown in the video. This changes a few of the springs as the directions indicate. If you start this project at 8:30 you will be driving a different vehicle to work in the morning. I would allow a few extra hours because many of the things in this tranny will be foreign to you. I used 1 washer in the 1-2 accumulator that was for "firm and crisp" and like that setting. Because of the differences in servos from model to model you may not want to use the servo that is in the truck now. If you look closely at the directions they tell you what servo serial #'s will produce the firmest shift. My Tahoe had the serial # that indicated the softest shift so I went to my local tranny parts dealer and picked up a corvette servo and it works great. Just make sure to check clearance on the band(a little wobble from side to side)after reinstalling the side cover. They give you a couple shims that you can add or remove for the correct clearance. So far, my truck has been fine after the install of this kit and I would recommend it to anyone. Be very patient...there are a lot of very tedious steps that would be much easier a second time.

Well, are you doing this <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> or this <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" />
