Default Trans Temp Gauge Install ?s

Just got my gauges in, have a few questions. On the trans temp gauge, do I have to install the sending unit or just tap into the wires that are already behind the factory gauges for it (if I can tap into the factory wires, which ones are they)? Also, what are some good wires to tap into for ignition switch and a dash lighting wire? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't trust that the stock sender and aftermarket sender will read the same...to be safe, I would definitely put in the aftermarket sender. It goes in really easy...there's a port on the driver's side of the trans right above the linkage. You just back out the little cap dealy that's in there right now and thread in the sender (using your favorite brand of thread sealer of course). You may get a little bead of trans fluid that comes out, but it's hardly any.

For the lights, I did it this way. This allows you to dim the gauges along with the stock cluster if you want.

Yep I have done this install, very easy on the 2wd... But... On my 4x4 it was not so easy... Front drive shaft gets in the way a lot...

With the 4wd you can unbolt the drive shaft from the front diff really quickly and get more space that way. It was still relatively simple.

with a little wedgeing you can get your hand in between the drive shaft... as for the light source i taped into the dimmer switch, and for the ignition source i took a wire down to my fuse box.

I was just lazy and tapped into the wires behind the headunit cause I already know what all the wires do I dont really like playing with the fuse box. I would just take the four 11mm bolts out and pop the driveshaft out of the way for an easier install.
