Default tranny temp gauge

09 gmc sierra 6 speed.. where would you put the temp sensor for a aftermarket tranny temp gauge? yes i kno it already has one in the dic.. (please dont go there)... anyway is there a place in line somewhere to get a good reading? or would putting it in the pan be best.. only problem about the pan is most ppl say it ill mess it up changing the fluid...

How would it mess up changing the fluid?? Once installed it basically becomes your drain plug.

Are you looking for where to mount the gauge or sensor? Or both?

no have a pod for the gauges (wideband and this one) just the SENSOR!.. and well alot of people say when you drain tranny fluid and refill with different fluid its never the same. why i have no idea!! but if i can do it and just lose a little fluid instead of a complete refill except converter of course then id rather do that... but i wanted to get some ideas or views on it first..

On the 4L60E's there is a test port on the driver's side of the trans that guys use for their temp sensor pretty often, I'm assuming that the 6 speed would have a similar port as it is used to hook a gauge into when performing pressure diagnosis...

I don't personally have the info as I have a Denali cluster with the trans temp gauge, but I'll bet that there's some info in the GM Drivetrain and Suspension section...try searching "trans temp gauge" or "trans temp sender", something along those lines. I know that somewhere along the line somebody has posted what size the port threads are and what extra fittings (if any) would be necessary

This is up for debate...I've heard it both ways. Every time I recommend the test port someone claims that it is not as accurate as the pan, so next time I'll repeat that and recommend getting a bung welded in the pan and someone will argue that one is just as accurate as the other and not to waste your time modding the pan. I'd like to see some definitive facts about this once and for all...
