Towing with Yank 2600/3000
Has anyone here pulled a good amount of weight with their Yank 2600 or 3000?
I'm concerned that either of these converters will put out too much heat when I tow our 5,500lb camper this summer, through stop and go traffic on the highway, and through rural hilly areas in 95* weather.
My truck is running 4.10's, with 31" tires. Would I be looking at the rated stall speed of the converter every time I went to accelerate from a dead stop or low speeds? ...Or are these 11" converters tight enough to still provide a good amount of pull at sub-stall-speeds?
There may be times where I need to pull the camper up 1/2 mile long rather-steep grades at speeds around 30-35mph with heavy pedal. Am I asking for trouble?
Bonus question: How much pedal does it take to hit your rated stall speed, from a dead stop? (in an unloaded truck)
Thanks

i have the yank 3000 and tow a 19' bassboat and trailer that weighs about 4500 lbs total. it tows fine. i never went on long hauls with it though. 1 hour tops. i can pull the boat out of the water in 2 WD on steep launch ramps with ease. of course the RPMs will be a bit higher when doing this. also, i noticed that it takes a bit more gas to back the boat up my driveway which has a moderate incline. your gas mileage will go down even without towing the trailer because it is hard to keep your foot off the gas. i can get my tach to jump to 3000 RPM at 1/2 throttle from a complete stop. i would get a bigger tranny pan to keep it cooler. also, i think you could install a tranny cooler too if you are concerned with overheating.

Thanks... That doesn't sound too bad...
I'll be picking up a bigger tranny cooler soon. I've got one stock, but it's pretty small. (We definitely don't need one in this NE weather though, huh?)
Do you see a whole lot more rpm's than usual, during normal on-road towing?

i really don't notice any difference in towing, whether i'm accelerating or cruising. the RPM's still stay the same at cruising speed. as long as you keep it in 3rd gear. i have my shift points (HPP3) bumped up and the tow/haul mode on too. they all seem to help. yank doesn't really make a difference in towing. it only does when you are trying to accelerate from a complete stop.
ya, this winter sucks again this year. i think it finally reached in the 20's today. HEAT WAVE
