torque converter question?
#1
well i am planning on doing the yank 2400. do any of yall think that this will help much? this is an everyday driving truck so i can't go to radical. i was planning on either doing the 2400 or the 2600 stall. i don't plan on doing anything else to my truck, accept for handling stuff. i kinda thought i would notice maybe 2-3 tenths with the 2400. which gear would be better for the the 2400 stall, 3.73 or 3.42?

Go with the 2600 and don't change the gears. I have seen a truck with a 3200 and 3.73 and et steets go 1.88 60', no spin. I was going 1.93 60' with 3200,et streets, and 3.42 gears, no spin. The 3.73 may hurt on top end, but be better if you plan to tow.

i have the 3000, it is great, i just got back from a trip towing a trailer thru the mountains and it did fine there and for everyday driving you can barley tell it is there.
i have lent my truck out to family members and they never noticed anything wierd. punch it and you will feel it then

Just remeber the "tighter" you want the converter to feel the "lower" the gear you want (currently run a 3500 stall with a 4.10:1 gear ratio.)
A 2.73:1 gear with a 3200 stall is going to "feel" as loose as 3.73:1 gear with a 3600 stall of equal or similar STR.
The Higher ratio gears will cause the converter to build more heat especially if it is a smaller than stock housing converter which is not good for towing or trans longevity.
You really shouldn't have to worry about running out of gear on the top end though...With the 26x11.50x16 ET Streets I finish the 1/4 in third around 5200-5500 rpm with plenty of room to go. With 30" tires on the street I pull right up to the 128 Speed gvernor - NO problem
