Whenever you go with an aftermarket muffler you are going to want a really quite one I gutted my cats with a dumped 40 blowmaster and it was unbearable. I think getting rid of the cats and modding my y pipe has been my best mod to date cost me around 90 bucks for mandrel bent y pipe and all the gains were incredible.

FYI, removing the cats also make the truck about 1 full point richer. You'll notice with the gasoline smell exhaust. I'll be taking my cats off later this week.

Yes, the catylitic converter absorbs much heat, turbos run off of heat, more heat, more spool.

I'm throwing around the idea of long tube headers since they are susposed to give a lot more power then the shorties, that would mean scrappin the stock cat setup. just outa curiosity, what are the legality issues involved with pullin the emmissions equiptment off a vehicle, I'm not worrried about smog testing because I have never heard of anyone getting it here in WI, but if I were ever to take it in for service, I'm sure it wouldnt take them long to realize something was up. Also, how much are these 02 sims and what other programming options are there for removing say the EGR or cats?

If you get caught, its expensive. But O dont know who would tell, or even who to tell. Just gut yours, then they have to have all kinds of emisions equipment to verify you don't have them.

I did mine like I did for ease of placement and removal. It would flow a lot better if you were to cut them off and weld a peice of pipe there. Heck you can put the pipe inside the gutted cat and weld it back on if you want the stock look as well. Good luck on that 14 pass!

Thabks. I got a small leak fixed, then had to go do aome manual labor, then didn't feel like taking them off. Maybe tomorow. Or next week. I'm still shooting for 14's Wed.
