I have a 2004 Tahoe, 2WD.....I dont like the stock 265/70/17 I have, they look like shiat....I wanted to put some BFGoodrich all Terrains....Would 31's fit on my stock rims with stock ride height? Would the speedo be out of range a bit? I looked up some BFGoodrich all terrains, and didnt see any 31's for a 17" rim....Any input would be appreciated....Thx

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those 265/70/17s actually 31 1/2 inches in overall diameter? They make AT KOs in your factory size and a 285/70/17, which is about 32 1/2 inches. The speedo will probably be out of range depending on what size gears you have. With 3.73s you can go up/down a whole inch without any problems.

no 33's wont fit, the biggest you need to go is 285's. You could get the 33's but their all in metric would be 305's. You would have to cut and raise torsion and your ride will suck. or just get a lift. personally I would go with the 285's and be done with it.

Your are right, 305 is a wider tire than a 285. However, if you hold the aspect ratio constant, (70 series-70% of 305), then you would end up with a taller overall tire diameter. 70% of 305 is roughly 213.5 mm tall. 70% of 285 is 199.5 mm tall. 14mm difference. Not sure how amny inches that converts to.

but im probably gonna go from 265/70/17 to 285/70/17.....that shouldnt change my speedo and mileage right? its just a lil wider....only reason im doing it is cuz i dont like the stock tires...i want a lil more rugged look without the humming of the tires....i was lookin at BFGoodrich All-Terrains

The 285/70s will be a little wider and little taller. I don't think it will change much in your mileage or speedo, since you have 3.73s. For example, my friend went from a 255/70/16 to a 265/70/16 and it was a little taller and wider (not too much) and he said he didn't lose any mileage with them.

Also for reference, you can calculate your tire size in inches with this formula. This will give a close estimate in inches:
2(section width)x(aspect ratio(sidewall height)) + rim size
2540
So for a 265/70/17 tire: Multiply 2 x 265 x 70, divide by 2540, then add 17.
2 x 265 x 70 = 37100, divide 37100 by 2540 = 14.606, then you add 17,
which = 31.606, this tire will be about 31 1/2" in overall diameter.
2(265) x (70) + 17 = 31.606 or 31 1/2"
2540
2(265) x (70) / 2540 + 17 = 31.606
A 285/70/17 tire will be: 2(285) x (70) / 2540 + 17 = 32.709 or 32 3/4"
2(section width)x(aspect ratio(sidewall height)) + rim size
2540

Thats cool....Thx Element...I think I'll go with the 285's....Now for another question...I was gonna get the mud BFG's instead of the All Terrains....Will the muds make that humming noise when i drive? and will it resonate inside the cab?
