Federal is a taiwanese company. They are cheap and are a knock off of a name brand expensive tire. Dunlop SP8000 if I recall. I used to have this very tire on my WRX and ran them on the drag strip and on the race track.
Now there is NOTHING wrong with the tire, you get what you pay for. In my case I went from a 6.5" wide wheel to a +1 and 7.5" wider wheel. That extra rubber gave me lots of traction, but not really an apples to apples comparison.
There are better tires on the market for the same budget price. Check out some Azenis tires, Hankook, and Sumitomo.
