Default Tensioner operation?

I started my truck with the hood open and when I shut it down, I noticed some belt squeal. I pushed the belt inward, and with a medium amount of pressure, noticed the tensioner moving and releasing slack. Is it supposed to operate in this manner? Or is it only supposed to move when you put the belt on or take it off....then are you supposed to tighten up the bolt or something?

The tensioner shouldnt move like that,. It sounds like something is loose or broken. The tensioner is spring loaded and soposed to keep tension on the belt so it doesnt slip.

just pushing on the belt with your fingers the tensioner should move very much at all,. but if you put your palm on it and push down then you should be able to push it down some.

Hard to say, you medium force is probably equal to my pinky force in my left arm. J/K Pull the belt off and see if you can move the tensioner by hand easily. It should be pretty damn tight. Check for wobble too. I had to replace my A/C tensioner due to wobble. The serpentine tensioner could do it also. There is no bolt to tighten up on the tensioners other than the mounting bolts.
