I finally got my new tranny in my truck and i upgraded everything(3000 bucks worth) i know im stupid should have gotten a 80e anyway I was wondering how much I can tow with this convert in my 60e. I have been looking at a 22X11 cooler that should be good. I would really like to be able to still tow my 20 foot lowboy trailer loaded down with 4wheelers(6000ish#s) and was wondering if this cooler would do the job. I have heard its not actually the stall that limits towing but the heat that it builds up.

If you havent gotten the converter already, I would look into the Yank TT 3000, I believe it is a little tighter and would be much better for towing, it's rated at stock towing capacity. Contact TCI on the towing capacity of their converter if you already have it. It shouldnt hurt anything on the highway, but pulling the trailer around town is where all the heat is built up.

 

Its a smaller diameter converter. Thus it will build heat quicker. That verter wouldnt be a wise choice for towing, period. I honestly think the TB stall would work best. Maybe a Yank TT2600. 3000 will be a bit much trying to get 6000# rolling from a dig.

 

I already have it and it is already in the truck. Im a dumb *** and forgot that I would be towing my trailer. I was thinking that by putting this overly larger tranny cooler(40000gcvw) and putting some fans on it and getting a large transmission oil pan with the cooling fins that it might be able to work. Yes if I could do it over again I would get the yank for sure but its already in there. So with what Im talking about do you think this could work.

 

the only way you will find out is to tow with it. i say put on the trailer with it empty and tow it around in traffic and see what she does. and what kind of cooler are you going to use that is that size.

 

Just watch the temps close.

 

40,000gvw cooler

This is the cooler that I was thinking about using in conjunction with an oil pan with an extra 3 quart capacity with cooling fins. Eventually I would get some generic fans to mount on the cooler for in-town driving but most of the towing with this trailer would be on the highway.

 

Oh and Im going to get an escalade cluster with the temp gauge is this reliable enough or do I need to go aftermarket?

 

i think the escalade cluster is just as reliable as any aftermarket for the tranny temp. Ive got the same truck and with the stock cooler and same stall I get average temps around 150 to 180 in around 75 degree weather. I was really beating on it when tuning the other day and it did get me a little worried about summer temps around 90+ some fans are in order. I think the stock cooler does a good job I would put some fans on it first and go from there with the larger pan then if need be Id put the larger cooler on. the converter will heat up quicker than some of the others but the stock cooler has been working well for me so far Ive tried to get the temp higher than 180 and havent been able to do it! I would get worried about temps at 200
