Default A-TAP and EDIT question

I am ordering A-Tap Monday but I have thought so much I have re-confused myself. Does A-Tap read the files from the PCM or is that LS1 edit? I am going to buy edit as soon as I become familiar with A-Tap and learn what readings to look for. I think I could benefit from some tuning-still running the 6.0 on Superchips' custom 5.3 tuning.

A-tap monitors all of the parameters from the pcm.
Then you adjust those parameters with ls1edit

go to carputing.com for edit

i'm too lazy to search for the atap site.

Autotap by itself will let you look at and record live data from your truck. Its the software that allows you to see how well or poor your truck is running and gives you some solid data to base your tuning on.

LS1 edit will pull your current PCM data out and save it to a file on your computer. You can then edit the data (shift points, injectors, fuel, tire height, etc...) and upload it back to your PCM.

Basically, you will need autotap to see how well your LS1 edit tuning is working.

Thanks guys. I am getting anxious/nervous. I really want to order both at once but I know me and I can't control myself-give me the ability to make changes and I start thinking "if some is good a lot must be better" Just ask the pistons in my LT1 truck about that after I put the DFI on and tried to run too much timing. My ears aren't the best and I have trouble hearing detonation unless it is really bad. Anyways, I am going to buy the A-tap first and then I'll get the edit once I feel comfortable.

Which version did you get? I am trying to decide which is best for me. I really don't need anything fancy, unless it is more user friendly. Anyone???? Pros and cons ??

I ordered the enhanced GM version-$289. It was explained to me that the efi live is just a scan program with the ability to temporarily change a few parameters. I couldn't see any reason to buy that when LS1 edit is available. Just my .02

OK- The a-tap came in on Wed. but my laptop was in the shop. I got it back yesterday and loaded a-tap immediately (was like a kid at Christmas time) All my excitement was killed when I got a message about my serial number and my registration number not matching. The friggin thing won't work and they are not open on weekends. Guess I'll have to wait til Monday and give 'em a call. I am not happy. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

Atap is a scan tool. There are a lot of scan tools available, but Atap specializes in the LS-1. That's what they call EFI Live V5 Pro. LS-1 Edit is like the HPPIII on nitrous. It allows you to look at PIDs and change parameters whereas HPPIII is blind for the user. Try OBDII.com and OBD2.com. There is a LOT of information on those sites if you want to learn about OBDII and you might as well because the EPA isn't going away any time soon.
